Environmental Protection Agency Water Shed Locater
A great site from EPA that allows you among other things to type in the name or zip code of a watershed and find out all of the up-to-date information about water quality indicators and other information on the water shed.

States Organization for Boating Access
SOBA's web page is still in its infancy but explains the mission of the Organization and lists its officers.

US Coast Guard
The Coast Guard has important recreational boating safety information and issues Captain's Licenses that are required under specific circumstances to take people out on navigable waters for hire (e.g., fishing guides and charters).
US Census Bureau
The census bureau has a wide variety of useful statistics including the National Survey of Hunting, Fishing & Outdoor Recreation 199119962001 and 2006 editions. This is the information source used for estimating how much time and money Americans spend fishing, hunting and otherwise using the outdoors for recreation. The 2006 State report is also available.
US Corps of Engineers
The Army Corps of Engineers is responsible for much of the structural modifications that affect water levels and routing throughout Florida.
US Environmental Protection Agency
The EPA is involved in ensuring healthy water and air quality throughout the US. (Search for information on your Water Shed)
US Fish and Wildlife Service--Sportfish Restoration
The Federal Aid in Sport Fish Restoration Program is vital to funding fisheries programs in Florida. Anglers should be aware of how this program operates and how to support it.
US Fish and Wildlife Service--Southeast Region
This is the regional Fish and Wildlife Service office that works with Florida.
US Fish and Wildlife Service Reference Service
Provides a powerful search engine for inquiring about Fish and Wildlife Service reports and findings.
US Forest Service

WATER MANAGEMENT DISTRICTS: Water Management Districts (WMDs) play a vital role in fisheries by regulating the quantity of water and timing of discharges. In addition, much of the vegetation control in the state is managed by the Districts and several very important reservoirs and water conservation areas were created and are maintained by district activities. Outdoors Show from Jacksonville

The Outdoors show comes from 600-The Ball radio station that each Saturday broadcasts a show including updates on the Commission's Jacksonville Urban Pond Program (JUPP). The website also has weekly forecasts and tips pertaining to the JUPP.

Water Line
WaterLine is the online version of the Sun Herald's boating and fishing section, primarily covering marine and sailing news along the waterways and coast of Southwest Florida, including Ft. Myers, Charlotte Harbor, Charlotte County and Sarasota County. However, it does have links and information about freshwater fishing as well and a neat nautical flag translator.

Star Charts
Star charts are generated by Distant Suns on the Wunderground site, you enter a zip code and time and it will show you the alignment of the planets, stars and constellations as well as the phase of the moon and its location.
TopoZone.com
This is a great site for topographic map users and outdoor recreation enthusiasts. They've worked with the USGS to create the Web's first interactive topo map of the entire United States. Unfortunately, underwater topology is not included but choose a lake and execute a search and it will give you a great look at the shoreline features.
US Census Maps
Quick Facts, you can enter a city and find out what county it is in, get a map and find all sorts of census information about the area..
Water Atlas
The University of South Florida created this water atlas for south Florida that includes information on lake depths, visibility, topo maps and related information.

American Fisheries Society
The AFS is an international professional and scientific organization of more than 8,500 fisheries managers and scientists. The web site contains many useful links and information on jobs in the Fisheries profession. Articles from "Fisheries" and the "AFS Diary" provide useful information about important up-to-date fisheries issues. The Florida Chapter has their own separate Shellcracker site.
American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists

This web site provides links to much of the current research on how lakes function and age.

The International Game Fish Association

National Fishing Week Organization
The National Fishing Week Organization helps promote fishing by coordinating national efforts to commemorate National Fishing Week, which is generally the first week of June. Almost all states have free fishing days and numerous events that are listed on this central data base.

This site is used to find commercial sites, for instance those related to fishing.
Dogpile Multisearch Engine
An outstanding multisearch engine that allows you to find what you want quickly by searching most of the major search engines simultaneously.
Excite
One of the big four search engines. It nicely ranks results according to the percentage of your search terms that each listed site included. It uses channels to help you narrow your search. Another neat feature is that it will suggest words that you can use to help narrow your search, after you complete your initial search. One more unique feature from Excite is the ability to track news based on search terms you choose (News Tracker)

A searchable data base that includes all of the reports written using Federal Aid in Sportfish Restoration (Wallop-Breaux) funds.
Google
The key to this search engine is an algorithm that weights sources by how many other sites link to them on the theory that frequently linked sources tend to provide better and more relevant content than other sites.
Hotbot
Another of the big four, Hotbot has several very interesting features. For one, you can insert an URL and find all the links to it. This can be a good way to backtrack to other sites with similar interests. You can also refine your search to specific continents, modification dates or domains (e.g., .gov, .com, .edu sites).
KidsClick
A search engine for kids from Berkeley University.
Lycos
Another true search engine it has a reputation of returning broken links, but Lycos Pro which is accessible from their main page has some nice features.
MyFlorida
Your portal to Florida Government services featuring the government information locator service (gils).
Scrub the Web
A good search engine for up-to-date sites. It is purged every 90 days.
Yahoo
Yahoo remains one of the most popular search tools. To be listed in Yahoo sites are submitted (not automatically found by the search engine) and evaluated by a real person. They favor popular sites over the academic ones to some degree, but offer convenient index categories and automatically shift failed searches to Alta Vista, if Yahoo does not find adequate references.
